The Educational Grants Advisory Service (EGAS) offers advice and guidance on funding for those studying in post-16 education in the UK. EGAS operates nationally providing comprehensive advice and information on sources of funding available for post-16 education and training including loans, grants, benefits, access funds, hardship funds, bursaries and charitable trusts. Services are provided free to individual students.

Professional and Career Development Loans

  • Courses must be vocational (skills needed for an occupation, trade or profession)
  • Applicants must be aged 18 or over and can be employed, self-employed, unemployed or students.
  • Loans can cover up to two years of learning (or up to three years if the course includes work experience).
  • The loan can be between £300 and £8,000.
  • The repayments for the loan would begin one month after the learning period is completed.
  • The repayment period is between 6 and 60 months, and the interest rate is fixed at the start of the loan.
  • In some cases repayments may be postponed after the learning period.
