Course Information- Signature Level 6 NVQ Certificate in BSL: Part 1 January 2011

Part 1 of the Signature Level 6 NVQ Certificate in BSL prepares students for the assessment component of the programme (Part 2).
Students will be trained in extracting and communicating complex information from a wide range of sources, even at speed, with occasional inaccuracy which they can usually correct. Students will develop familiarity with a range of regional variations, formal and informal language, relevant technical vocabulary and colloquialisms. Also students be trained in participating in negotiations, dealing with complaints, problems or disputes. We will also develop skills relating to making effective use of the telephone/videophone and web-based live communications.
Course content:
The course consists of 2 units: Units BSL601 – receptive skills and BSL602 – productive skills. At the end of this skills development programme students will:
- be able to understand complex social interaction with a BSL user
- be able to maintain social and professional relationships using BSL
- be able to understand varied BSL in a wide range of complex work situation
- be able to use complex sign language to communicate fluently over extended periods on all topics within his/her field of work in a range of situations
- be able to use and understand a complex range of vocabulary and technical language
- be able to use and understand a full range of grammatical forms
- be able to use reference sources
